Speed cameras, a history..

The technology of traffic speed cameras date back to 1905, however the usage of them has increased only in the recent past i.e. 1970 onwards.

Radar technology is used in the making of speed cameras which enables them to capture a fast moving picture. The speed camera technology is used in many different countries like United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France, Italy and Canada amongst others in order to reduce on the amount of speeding violations. The cameras are positioned to allow it to capture the moving vehicle. Usually a speed traffic camera takes a picture of the number plate, front and/or back of the vehicle. A few of the latest design cameras also allow capturing the picture of the driver.

In modern traffic camera systems the offending picture is forwarded to the traffic department via a satellite network. The introduction of this technology has been a great help to the law enforcement department as it enables them to catch speeding violators.
